TRANSFORMERS Announcement Trailer

The official TRANSFORMERS website has posted the Announcement Trailer (read: doesn't really show anything that we care about). It's still worth a glance because it kind of gives you an idea of where Michael Bay plans to go with it.

Better Together? Amazon's recommendations at work.

So I was checking out Upscaling DVD Players today, and all signs pointed to this one. Amazon, however, felt that a single DVD player, was not enough.

Rocketboom's Take on Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality is a big deal. So big, in fact, that Ninjas are trying to protect it. Well, this time, Rocketboom!, one of the Net's most popular videoblogs (or vidcasts, or vlog, or whatever), is giving their take on the issue. For Rocketboom (and videoblogs and blogs and podcasts and pretty much everyone else), it's a matter of life and death.

Check out the video here.

Watch: Nobody's Watching

The following is part 1 of a sitcom pilot produced for the WB entitled Nobody's Watching. It follows the antics of two bestfriends and life-long television enthusiasts as they attempt to create a good sitcom in a world of Yes, Dears. I would guess that it didn't get picked up due to that whole WB-UPN Merger.

Nobody's Watching is brought to us by the writers of two of my favorite shows: Scrubs and Family Guy, so you can be pretty damn sure that it is funny - and different.

Check out part 2 and part 3 here.

WSJ Hosts DRM Debate

The Wall Street Journal has published a debate over digital rights management (DRM) technologies between a senior executive of the MPAA and a law professor specializing in intellectual property issues. It is definitely worth a read, if nothing else, to show how absolutely grave this issue is. To see some of the things this MPAA guy says is truly scary.

Like run for the hills and live life as a hermit effing scary.

Also, IPac has a very good blog post, entitled DRM debate debunked: Let's count the lies, in which IPac supreme overload Jake Fisher thoroughly debunks each and every one of the lies of spouted off by the MPAA stooge.

I honestly fear for future generations. The MPAA and RIAA (especially!) are becoming increasingly obsolete as technology improves and time goes on. They know this. The problem, however, is how much of our Legislative Branch that they outright own. Because they know that their place in this ever changing and improving (I'm optimistic) world is becoming increasingly small (nice paradox), they are trying to cement themselves into law, so that they can't simply dissipate off into oblivion as they should.

MICROSOFT Anti-Piracy Campaign

You get a letter with an unbranded CD and a post it letting you know all the software is on the CD and the serials are enclosed. When opening the CD you get a surprise Windows blue screen of death and the effect of the monitor shutting down. Then you get a message from Microsoft, that you are lucky time this is just a DM, but next time your machine can crash for real if you use bootleg software.

Developers ditching PS3 in favor of Wii, LucasArts jumps onboard

The last publication of EGM entrusts to us two rumours in connection with our liked well Wii. If rumours well are said, it is known however that EGM is a highly reliable source which is seldom mistaken.

On the one hand, it seems that following E3, much of third editors are transforming their projects for the PS3 into projects for Wii. (And thus in future Wii plays.) It is obviously thanks or because of the high price of the PS3 and to the very good reception reserved for Wii at the time of the demonstration.

Second rumour, LucasArts entrust that they wish to answer waitings of the many fans of Wii. A play Star Wars would be exclusive in Wii and would include engagements with the sabre laser thanks to Wiimote and its vibration modes and sound!
Imagine already the sound of the sabre when you split the air, the vibrations when you entrechoquez it with another sabre!

Creating X360 playlists from your iTunes playlists

So, the Xbox 360 does not understand any of the playlist types that iTunes can output. This, naturally, bothers me because I use iTunes for all of my music listening needs, and absolutely loathe Windows Media Player. Short of importing all my mp3s into WMP and remaking playlists, I did not know how to get the playlists I've worked so hard on into my Xbox.

Then I found this. It is a sweet little program that will convert the TXT files that iTunes can export (Export Song List...) into M3U playlists which the Xbox 360 can understand.

Problem solved.

South Carolina About to Ban Evolution (Again); New Buzzterm Emerges!

So, in order to sidestep all the "Intelligent Design" and "Creationism" defeats, South Carolina is trying to pass an amendment to their state constitution that will only allow Evolution to be taught alongside something they are calling "Critical Analysis" or "Critical Thinking." Sigh...

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Philosophers dissected the age-old dispute over teaching evolution in biology classrooms Monday as lawmakers prepared to debate its latest manifestation at the Statehouse.

A House committee will consider Tuesday an amendment that establishes how textbooks, software and other instructional materials are selected to require they “critically analyze” the subject matter.

It is the latest tactic by conservative lawmakers who want students to learn about problems in the theory of evolution.

“I feel like we’ve got textbooks out there that are not appropriate,” said Rep. Bob Walker, R-Landrum. As a member of the Education Oversight Committee, Walker has led an effort to convince the state Board of Education to change wording in the evolution curriculum.

Biologists, who say an understanding evolution is crucial to learning how organisms became what they are today, say “critical analysis,” as proposed by Walker and others, is a backdoor way to inserting intelligent design into the curriculum. Intelligent design is the theory that life is so complex that there must have been a designer, namely God.

The evolution debate is likely to continue on at least two other fronts after Tuesday’s meeting. A one-year provision in the Senate’s version of the budget, which is set to be debated in a House-Senate committee, calls for all instructional materials to include “critical thinking.” Also, the academic standards panel of the Education Oversight Committee, rebuffed by the Education Department in its latest effort to adjust the biology curriculum, is meeting next Monday. It is set to discuss how to resolve the impasse between the two agencies, which must agree on new standards.

I shoot people in the face. How about you?

Jack Thompson is at it again - so we know this is going to be entertaining based upon his previous antics. Apparently, there was a brutally violent crime in FL recently where a victim was beaten within an inch of death and shot in the face. Two teenagers are the prime suspects, and, one of whom -- you guessed it -- has some M rated videogames in his house.

In his typical looney-bin, wingnut fashion, Thompson has jumped on the chance to get his ludicriously crazy opinions into print media. On the issue of violent crime, Crazy Jack has this to say:

Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer."

I love giving Jack what he wants (he certainly wants his voice heard). The reason I love to propogate his insanity is that it is so insane, it discredits him as a rational human being.

Jack couldn't be more wrong, however. Ask any gamer, anywhere -- it is obviously far, far more fun to shoot someone in the back of the head.
