When to Say 'I Love You'

While it's perfectly normal to proclaim your love for your pet cat or NASCAR racing, pairing the L-word with your sweetie's name might not roll off the tongue so easily. And according to a recent poll of 14,000 men and women, we're an extremely cautious lot. It's probably a no-brainer that many people (29 percent) thought a week or two is too soon to profess your feelings. But about as many (26 percent) thought a month or two was jumping the gun, and the majority of people polled (32 percent) think you should keep your lips zipped for a whopping six whole months. Interestingly (and a bit sadly, if you ask us), 13 percent admit they never say 'I love you' at all!

I feel sorry for that 13% of people. One of the things I enjoy most in the world is sharing with someone that I love them.

And here comes the advice:

But waiting for the other person to make the first move isn't always a smart idea either. "Healthy relationships aren't played out like poker games, waiting for the other person to show their hand," Masini points out. If you're feeling shy, Masini suggests taking baby steps to vocalize your feelings, using phrases like "You mean so much to me" or "You're really special," until you're comfortable working up to the three little words that carry so much weight. That way, you can gauge whether your partner is receptive and feels completely ready when (and if!) it's time to really share how you feel.

I think that makes sense. Especially the bit about the poker game. But then again, few things in life are ever simple, so ...

Full Length Zelda Movie Nearing Completion

The Hero of Time (The Legend of Zelda) is an independent Zelda movie that a small group of producers and film buffs called "BMB Finishes" have been making. They have been working on this movie for the past two years, and it is now nearing completion. It is a fully independent production that when finished will be promoted as a festival piece, as well as being a fan film. All of the people working on the movie are big fans of the Zelda series, and they have put a ton of creativity and effort into this film. The movie is being directed by Joel Musch, who also produces the film along with David Blane.

Oddly, it looks almost decent. I wonder if its the same David Blane as the street magician guy.

ZDNet wants you to boycott DRM

Watch this. Its funny. I apologize for my hiatus last week - I was quite under the weather.

ZDNet Executive Editor David Berlind suggests that CRAP or Content, Restriction, Annulment, and Protection, is a catchier phrase than DRM - Digital Rights Management. Why does he think this technology is crap? Once you've bought music or other content to play on one device, it won't play on any other device because of the proprietary layer of CRAP.

Atheists identified as America's most distrusted minority

What was it again? "Love thy neighbor, just don't let him marry your daughter"?
From a telephone sampling of more than 2,000 households, researchers found that Americans rate atheists below all minority groups in "sharing their vision of American society." Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.

Support DMCA Reform - Help Pass HR 1201

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) has been wreaking havoc on consumers' fair use rights for the past seven years. Now Congress is considering the Digital Media Consumers' Rights Act (DMCRA, HR 1201), a bill that would reform part of the DMCA and formally protect the "Betamax defense" relied on by so many innovators.

HR 1201 would give citizens the right to circumvent copy-protection measures as long as what they're doing is otherwise legal. For example, it would make sure that when you buy a CD, whether it is copy-protected or not, you can record it onto your computer and move the songs to an MP3 player. It would also protect a computer science professor who needs to bypass copy-protection to evaluate encryption technology. In addition, the bill would codify the Betamax defense, which has been under attack by the entertainment industries in the "INDUCE Act" and the MGM v. Grokster case. This kind of sanity would be a welcome change to our copyright law.

Come on, everyone. It is time we start fighting back. The EFF makes it so easy to contribute - Just click the link below.

Boy Recovers From Being Brain Dead Thanks To Video Game Therapy

Doctors pronounced Ethan Myers brain dead after a car accident dealt the 9-year-old a severe brain injury in 2002. After he miraculously awoke from a nearly month-long coma, doctors declared he would never again eat on his own, walk or talk.

Yet, thanks partly to a video game system, Myers has caught up with his peers in school and even read a speech to a large group of students."

Ready to go to the Casino

I'll admit, I was a bit ... skeptical ... when Daniel Craig was announced as the new James Bond on that old WWII vessel under London Bridge last October. You might even say I was angry - even offended.

But, in the time since said announcement, my anger has abated (even though, for other vocal fans, it has definitively not) and one might even venture to say it has ... 180-ed into ... pure and rampant fanboyism. This has nothing to do with Craig, per se, but it has everything to do with the fact that there is a new James Bond movie coming, and after the deluge of recent interviews, pictures, and video clips, it looks to be really, really good.

Just check out this quote (my italics for emphasis) from Barbara Broccoli, Bond producer and heir apparent of the franchise:

We're going back to the origins of the character and the story, but we feel that even though it's rougher and more complex. We're still making something, which is what we call heightened reality. It's more realistic and it's not as fantastical as the last couple [movies] have been or we've made through the series [Editor Note: invisible cars in Die Another Day much????]. There were times, when the films got very fantastical like with Moonraker and things like that. You change because you change with the times. At the moment, I think everybody is feeling very serious about the world and they don't feel frivolous about the world, and I think it's the right time to tell this story."

Now that, coupled with statements from everyone across the board that they are going with more grit and stuntwork as opposed to CGI-laced action, the addition of a script from Paul Haggis (He just won Oscars last week for writing, producing and directing the "Best Film of the Year" Crash), and the fact that Daniel Craig is regarded as a really great actor, has got me excited. To say the least.

New Office 2007 Screenshots

I know its been a while. It is disgusting how little has been going on worth writing about or linking too. I mean ... Office 2007 screenshots ... that's what I've got. It looks interesting, but, seriously, do you think Microsoft could find a way to fit even more clutter into those "ribbons" ? My office is cluttered enough, I do not need it in my office application suite as well.
